Michael Mattie
Since 1992, Michael has helped clients prepare and invest for their retirement years. Most of his clients are in or approaching retirement, and his Conservative Financial Strategies theme resonates well with their desire to smooth out volatility in their portfolios.1
As founder of Doylestown Wealth Management, Michael combines his investment experience with a passion for studying the investment markets. Reading both fundamental and technical market research, Michael currently believes a cautious approach to the markets is best, with a focus on dividend investments from large company stocks and certain bond investments1. Furthermore, Michael expands the boundaries of traditional asset allocation2 with the inclusion of alternative strategies, again with a dividend focus.3
His goal is to smooth out the extreme ups and downs for clients and rely on dividends from a variety of sources to supplement income.
When asked, Michael will point to the Federal Reserve action since 2008 as the primary driver of stock market growth. While he does not want to “fight the Fed”, he is concerned that the Federal Reserve’s effect on the stock market may be waning, hence his shift to a conservative, dividend-focused strategy.
“Since 2008, the Fed’s balance sheet expanded from roughly $800 billion to well over $4 trillion. The economy has not responded with explosive growth, like it has after previous recessions. What happens when the Fed finally stops supporting the economy with their QE programs, and eventually raises rates on a consistent basis?” Michael has studied the Federal Reserve System and its Quantitative Easing programs in great detail. Michael welcomes an opportunity to discuss how this historic financial experiment may affect future market performance and your portfolio.
Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Delaware before earning his commission in the US Marine Corps. As a captain and helicopter pilot, he was decorated for flying combat missions in Grenada and Beirut. As an active volunteer, he has enjoyed 27 years as a dedicated Rotarian, serves as President of the board of directors for the Family Service Association of Bucks County, raised funds to purchase and distribute over 2,300 wheelchairs free of charge to those in need around the world and continues as coach for some of his children’s sports teams. A married father of five, Michael counts his family as his greatest treasure.
